† Farewell from Father Peter
New duty at the Diocese beginning September 1, 2010
The Gospel for this Fifteenth Weekend of Ordinary Time connects two essential elements of being humans: 1)eternal life, and 2) love of God and of neighbors. Eternal life is gained through the love of God and the love of one's neighbors.
Exactly two years ago, in the middle of July, 2008, I arrived from Rome to join the community of San Antonio de Padua del Cañon. In my first homily, I focused on the role of the Good Shepherd offering eternal life to us through agape or unconditional love.
In the last two years, God has been extremely gracious to me by giving me people with generous and warm hearts. I truly enjoy being the image of God's shepherd to you. Your love, warm reception, joy and care have given me an ardent zeal to serve God and His people. You, as parishioners of San Antonio de Padua, have strengthened me in my priesthood. Unfortunately, my time with you will change. With a saddened heart, I am informing you that I will leave San Antonio de Padua to assume a new duty at the Diocese beginning September 1, 2010.
At the present moment, I just wish I can enjoy the remaining weeks of July and the last two weeks of August with all of you. I ask for your prayers, namely in my new ministry at the Diocese, and I also ask that you give me an opportunity to express my gratitude and farewell to you at the end of August.
Know that wherever I am, you are in my prayers. - Father Peter

† A Wonderful Announcement
Tim Donovan accepted to enter St. Patrick's Seminary Aug 23

Tim has been active in the Youth Ministry program for five years. He has been our Assistant Youth Minster for the past three years. He has been a Confirmation teacher and has sponsored many teens.
He has a very deep desire to direct teens to stay focused in their faith. He has been involved in everything that happens in Youth Ministry from leading our SALT (San Antonio Leadership Team), to directing the Stations of the Cross. His passion for teens to grow closer to God is evident at all our retreats. As a young adult, he attended World Youth Day in Sydney, Australia and worked as a missionary in Perth. He also has planned and attended four Juvenile Hall retreats.
This calling for Tim to the priesthood is a true blessing for San Antonio parish. It also shows that good things are happening in Youth Ministry and we thank the entire parish for their support.

†Family Assistance Food Collection
Collection - Third Sunday each month
Family Assistance has identified the third Sunday of each month for the collection of food from parishioners attending Mass. Donated food is distributed to families in need from the ministry's Food Pantry on Thursday afternoons. To service the needs of families who seek food from our pantry, we need at least 100 bags of food every month. The ministry needs your help to assist these less fortunate families who have fallen on hard times.
The third Sunday of each month is also Green envelope Sunday. Your donations from the green envelopes are the source of funds that enables Family Assistance to provide financial aid to working poor families and families at risk of becoming homeless. Should you have questions or need to contact Family assistance, please call Teri Hicks, 714.974.9723. Thank you for your generous support!
