SAFE ENVIRONMENT

WE AT THE DIOCESE OF ORANGE ARE COMMITTED TO PROVIDING A SAFE ENVIRONMENT FOR OUR CHILDREN AND YOUTH. Read More...

Our Confirmation preparation program is a two-year process with the goal of fostering and developing the faith of the youth of San Antonio Parish and to confirm them in the Spirit to become mature adults in our Catholic faith. Teens can begin the program in fall of their freshman, sophomore or junior year of high school, and they are confirmed in spring at the end of the second year. This allows them time to complete the two-year program before graduating high school. All teen candidates must be baptized in the Catholic Church, have received the Sacrament of Holy Communion and be actively living their Catholic faith, including attending Mass every Sunday and all Holy Days of Obligation.

Teens are placed into small groups with whom they will journey for the two-year program. Due to the size of our program, we cannot accommodate special placement requests. Each small group has at least 2 adult volunteers. Teen co-leaders from our SALT group are assigned as available. All volunteers complete the Safe Environment process as prescribed by the Diocese.

SALT is our San Antonio Leadership Team - a program for Confirmed juniors or seniors. You can join SALT as a senior even if you did not participate as a junior.

SALT meetings are on Wednesdays, approximately every other week, which include a variety of formats including study, prayer and social activities. SALT teens are also invited to be co-leaders of Confirmation groups, attend Confirmation retreats as part of the leadership team, and participate in other service events at our parish and in the community.

Adult Volunteers - this section is for you!

How can I volunteer with Youth Ministry?
Our ministry would not be possible without our wonderful volunteers. We have a range of options available depending on your availability and level of time commitment.

Each adult catechist will be paired with another adult to help lead a confirmation small group. Small group sizes are determined by the number of adult volunteers and teens in the program.

Attendance is expected and required as follows:

  1. (2) Confirmation meetings a month (hall and small group)
  2. (1) monthly workshop (at church for only adult and SALT volunteers)
  3. (1) Confirmation weekend retreat each program year (all volunteers travel on the bus and bunk in same buildings as teens)
  4. Volunteer kickoff meeting (Sept)

Each small group may have one or more SALT teens who volunteer to participate (number depends on how many teens choose to make the commitment). They are expected and required to attend the classes and workshops as well.

We already have the curriculum in place! At each workshop, the group of catechists will review the upcoming class curriculum. The adult volunteer’s role is to facilitate discussion within their small group. Each meeting has a topic along with discussion questions and group activities.

All adult volunteers must be fingerprinted, complete online safe environment training and online safe driver courses. Details will be coordinated through the Youth Ministry Office.

If you’re interested in joining our youth ministry family as a Confirmation Catechist, please complete our Volunteer Form.

We have a group of adult catechists who plan and facilitate our SALT meetings and retreats. SALT catechists will prepare material for meetings, present talks at retreats, and provide spiritual leadership and guidance for our young, Catholic teen leaders.

Attendance is expected as follows:

  1. (2) SALT meetings a month
  2. (1) quarterly planning meeting
  3. (1) SALT weekend retreat each program year (all volunteers travel on the bus and bunk in same buildings as teens)
  4. Volunteer kickoff meeting (Sept) - optional

All adult volunteers must be fingerprinted, complete online safe environment training and online safe driver courses. Details will be coordinated through the Youth Ministry Office.

If you’re interested in joining our youth ministry family as a SALT leader, please complete our Volunteer Form.

We host various events throughout the year beyond Confirmation and SALT meetings. For everything from one-time service projects to a weekend retreat, we need adult volunteer to chaperone our teens.

All adult volunteers must be fingerprinted and complete online safe environment training. Details will be coordinated through the Youth Ministry Office.

If you’re interested in joining our youth ministry family as an event chaperone, please complete our Volunteer Form.

Many of our events require administrative prep work that is simple but time consuming. If you have time to volunteer but not necessarily at a Youth Ministry event with the teens, there are a number of small projects that you can help with in the office or to be completed at home.

If you’re interested in joining our youth ministry family to provide administrative support, please complete our Volunteer Form.

If you’re ready to chat with us about finding your role in our ministry family, send us some information and we will be in touch:
